Chris Newkirk
President, Commercial & Money Movement Solutions, Visa
Chris Newkirk is Visa’s President, Commercial & Money Movement Solutions (CMS). Chris is one of three P&L leaders reporting directly to the CEO. He oversees a multi-disciplinary global organization responsible for driving Visa’s commercial and B2B solutions, Visa Direct and Government Solutions. In this role, Chris is responsible for all aspects of the CMS business, across strategy, product, marketing, sales, risk, technology, operations, and strategic partnerships.
Prior to taking this role in February 2023, Chris joined Visa in June 2020, as Visa’s Chief Strategy Officer. In that role, Chris led the development of the company’s long-term growth strategy. In addition, Chris led the Regional Product organization (a global team of specialist sellers and solutions engineers), as well as Visa’s cross-border, pricing, and interchange functions.
Prior to Visa, Mr. Newkirk spent 12 years at Capital One, most recently as the President of Small Business (card and banking), International and the Walmart Partnership. In that capacity, Mr. Newkirk served as a member of the executive committee reporting to the CEO, with full P&L responsibility across six lines of business comprising ~20% of the company’s revenues across the U.S., U.K. and Canada. His remit spanned strategy, marketing, sales, product, operations, digital transformation, customer experience, talent, risk management, financial performance, and venture investing. Prior to Capital One, Mr. Newkirk held several leadership roles at IndyMac Bank. Previously, Mr. Newkirk was a strategy consultant with McKinsey & Company.
Mr. Newkirk received his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Yale University and his juris doctorate, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School. He serves on the board of the Higher Achievement.
